PERFORMANCE TASK

The Food Truck Decision

A multi-part, real-world task like the ones on the CAASPP. Read the situation, then work through every part in order — the later parts build on your earlier answers. You’ll solve mathematically and explain your reasoning in writing.

Claims 2, 3 & 4 · Modeling with linear functions and systems · DOK 3–4

📋 The situation

Maria wants to start a food truck. She has two ways to get one:

🚚 Option A — Rent
A one-time setup fee of $2,000, plus $150 per week of rental.
💰 Option B — Buy
Buy a used truck outright for $5,000, with $50 per week in maintenance.

Let w = the number of weeks. Total cost is modeled by a linear equation for each option.
