Your first ten minutes

Four things, in this order.

Bookmark the hub and share the link
Everything hangs off Algebra 1 Hub β€” units, resources, exams. Put it in your LMS as a single link. It works offline once loaded.

Walk the class through the student guide
Start Here is an eight-section tour. The 16 units stay locked until a student finishes it, so do it together on day one β€” 20 minutes on a projector.

Assign the Diagnostic Pre-Test and collect the codes
One question per unit. Students press Turn in, paste the code into a form, and you import the column into the Teacher Dashboard. That is your baseline.

Set your pacing
The Pacing Guide spreads the 16 units across the year and marks where the checkpoints and the midterm land. Decide your unit deadlines now β€” students can otherwise drift.
The one thing to tell students out loud

Progress is saved in the browser they are sitting at β€” not in an account. Same laptop, same browser, no clearing history. If they move machines, they start the progress bar over. Turning in weekly means you always hold a copy.

A first week that actually works

The course is self-paced, but the first week should not be. Front-load the routines and the rest of the year runs itself.

Two routines worth protecting

Five questions drawn from what each student has already finished, scheduled so a skill returns just before they would forget it. Same five minutes, every day.
⧉ Friday turn-in
Last five minutes of the week: everyone presses Turn in on the hub and pastes the code into your form. You import one column into the dashboard and you are current.
Section 3

Where the data lives, and how it reaches you

There is no gradebook server behind this course. Each student's work is written to their own browser storage, and it only reaches you when they choose to hand it over. That is what makes the course privacy-safe β€” and what you have to plan around.

Option A
Turn-in codes
The hub has a Turn in button that copies one long code to the clipboard. Students paste it into a Google Form, an LMS text box, or an email. You paste the whole column into the dashboard at once.
Option B
Report files
Every unit and exam can export an .html report β€” the questions, their answers, and the standards behind them. Students attach the file; you drag a pile of them onto the dashboard.

Three ways progress disappears
  • Working in a private / incognito window β€” nothing is kept when it closes.
  • Clearing browsing data, or a district script that wipes profiles nightly.
  • Switching machines or browsers β€” progress does not follow the student.

The turn-ins you have imported are unaffected β€” that record is the durable copy of a student's work.

Section 4

Assessments, parallel forms, and paper

Every unit ends with its own Check for Understanding. On top of that there are course-level assessments you schedule:

Four parallel forms, so neighbours can't copy numbers

Checkpoint 1, Checkpoint 2, Checkpoint 3, the Midterm, and the Final each exist in four versions: identical items and identical difficulty, different numbers. The letter is derived from the name the student types, and then locked β€” reloading mid-test cannot change their numbers. The form letter shows as a pill at the top and is recorded in the report you receive.

Form A is the authored paper. Printed worksheets and answer keys match Form A, so a paper make-up stays valid. Multiple-choice, two-part, and graphing items keep their authored numbers β€” only the numeric-entry items vary between forms.

On a unit's Overview, Printable worksheet produces that unit's practice and quiz on paper with a full answer key and worked steps. Use it for substitute days, a device outage, homework, or students who need to write by hand. Download the HTML if you want to keep a copy in your files.

Unit 0 is your intervention shelf

Unit 0 Β· Readiness review covers the eight things Algebra 1 quietly assumes: negatives, fractions, percents, order of operations, expression vocabulary, basic equations, ratios, the coordinate plane. Its topics are unlocked from the start and can be taken in any order, and it does not count toward course progress β€” so you can assign a single topic the week it trips someone up.

Bottom-right of every page: dark/light display, text size, extra contrast, animations off, an easy-reading font, underlined links, a strong focus ring, and read-aloud with a speed control. Settings persist per device.
🌐 Español
The same panel switches the whole interface to Spanish and sets the page language so read-aloud uses a Spanish voice. All navigation, practice, and quiz chrome is translated; every unit's content is fully translated β€” explanations, worked examples, practice, hints, checks and projects. Numbers and answers are shared between languages, so a translation can never change the math.
Algebra tiles with live expression and zero pairs, a balance scale that coaches each step, and graph paper with draggable points. Good for a small-group reteach on a projector.

Each topic has a drill that generates fresh problems until the student gets several right in a row, plus step-by-step hints on every worked example. Nobody runs out of practice, and nobody has to wait for you to print more.

Standards, evidence, and what goes in the book

Every item in the course carries its CA CCSS standard, its SBAC claim, and a DOK level. That is what makes the reports useful: you are not looking at a percentage, you are looking at which standards have evidence behind them.

Nothing in the course enforces this β€” adjust to your department's policy. Drills deliberately carry no weight so students feel free to fail at them.
